WAR

I am a soldier. I have been in warfare and experienced what it can do to bodies and souls (mine included). What we are seeing in commentary on the web today is a symptom of a much larger issue among nations.

There are ways to deal with these conflicts - at universities - and among nations and among ourselves, even here on the web.

When governments and weapons makers treasure the economic windfalls in collective military industrial technology and refuse to negotiate, then political and military values on both sides of a world conflict collide.

Soldiers and civilians then die, students demonstrate. and we decry the carnage on the Internet.

The result is avoidable death and destruction with demonstrations and further conflict - too late to do anything but conflict more and feel helpless.

The demonstrations must occur in front of these events to avoid them.

All wars eventually result in negotiated settlements. Avoiding them by learning about each other's values and negotiating in the first place is the most effective war weapon and by far the least costly in materials, debt and lives.
