“$1.17 billion in grants to 680 organizations nationwide to help veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless secure housing and help with job training, health care coverage and counseling.“

“The funds will cover $855 million for one-year grants starting Oct. 1 — the beginning of fiscal year 2027 — for providing case management services, rapid re-housing and eviction prevention for veterans.
These grants will help to prevent the imminent loss of a home, identify suitable housing for veterans and their families and rapidly re-house veterans who are homeless and likely to remain homeless without help.
The dollars for fiscal 2027 also include $318 million in three-year grants to provide transitional housing and specialized support services for homeless veterans, according to the VA.
This funding helps veterans attain and keep their temporary housing, while receiving assistance in finding permanent housing.
The housing money specifically provides outreach to the most vulnerable veterans, including individuals who are mentally ill, elderly, terminally ill or caring for children at home, according to the VA.
An estimated 32,495 veterans experienced homelessness on a single night in January 2025, according to a census conducted by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the most recent figures available.
“These grants underscore our commitment to expanding critical services that prevent veteran homelessness, connecting those who have worn the uniform to permanent housing and providing the resources necessary for long‑term stability,” said VA Secretary Doug Collins.
The VA helped more than 51,000 veterans find and keep their housing in fiscal 2025, the agency said.”
